BURNE-JONES, Edward. Original Drawing of The Angel Gabriel. [c.1890]

Mounted, framed and glazed, 15 x 9 inches (image size). Executed in coloured chalk and pencil. A fine drawing.

Initialled and inscribed by the artist "to GR [Graham Robertson] from EBJ". This drawing is a study of the Angel Gabriel as he appears as an attendant in the Annunciation window in St. Margaret's Rottingdean, Sussex. Burne Jones lived and worked towards the end of his life in Rottingdean. These windows were given to Rottingdean church by Burne-Jones in commemoration of his daughter's wedding. Graham Robertson (1867-1948) was a noted patron and friend of Burne-Jones and a gifted artist himself.
